Jewish Culture & Diversity
“All Jews are responsible for one another.” (Shavu’ot 39A)
The Jewish people are one people. We respect each other’s differences.
The diversity of the Jewish people is one of its greatest strengths. Heilicher strives to support every family’s Jewish journey and encourages open conversation about what it means to be Jewish in the 21st Century. Heilicher’s learning community is enriched by its BIPOC, interfaith, unaffiliated, single-parent, and LGBTQ families. Heilicher’s goal is an inclusive community in which all are welcomed, valued, respected, heard, and included.
"Some people might be concerned that HMJDS is not diverse enough when, in fact, every day our children are learning how to be appreciative and respectful of different learning styles, backgrounds, and religious observance."
Jewish Studies
Heilicher is a Jewish community day school that celebrates the broad range of Jewish beliefs and practices of the Jewish people. Heilicher promotes respectful dialogue and structures activities to help students understand and articulate their own opinions while developing the critical skills of interacting and coexisting with people of different backgrounds, ideals, and customs. Students constantly examine the relationship between citizenship in the Jewish people and membership in the global community.
